Origins

In what feels like over a decade in the making, with dreams of vinous grandeur quietly taking shape beneath the surface, SPRY WINE has finally come to fruition.

The namesake vision of Winemaker Duncan Spry, SPRY WINE is the culmination of more than ten years of winemaking across Australia, primarily in Tasmania. Yet, the journey here was never planned, which is often how the greatest endeavors begin.

For nearly 15 years, Duncan worked as a professional Tuba player across the globe, until the last notes rang out in 2016. Following a nerve damage diagnosis in his upper lip, he pivoted into the wine world. Passion follows passion, and wine is pure passion. Duncan enrolled in a Bachelor of Wine Science at Charles Sturt University while taking his first steps at boutique winery Two Figs near Berry, NSW. After three seasons in the Hunter Valley at Tamburlaine Organic Wines, he moved to Hobart and put down roots in 2019.

Having played an integral role in the rise of several premium Tasmanian wines such as Lowestoft, Ossa, Bream Creek and Gala Estate, and small stints at Pressing Matters & Bellebonne, the time was right to channel that energy into a project of his own.

SPRY WINE is built on authenticity, sustainability, and a love of translating the vineyard to bottle.

We are small, even by Tasmanian standards. We value deep relationships and intentional winemaking; we don't do things "just because." From vineyard to bottle, we craft wines with honesty, inviting you to be part of our story and the unique Tasmanian vineyards captured in every glass.
